The Ukrainian intelligence services are claiming responsibility for an explosion on a railway line in Russia’s western Oryol region on Saturday evening that killed three members of Russia’s National Guard, RBC Ukraine reported on Sunday.

The explosion took place on a section of track between the towns of Maloarkhangelsk and Glazunovka in the south of the Oryol Region, according to Governor Andrey Klychkov. An explosive device reportedly detonated while attempts were being made to defuse it, killing two Russian National Guard members on the spot, and seriously injuring a third, who subsequently died in hospital, Klychkov said on Sunday.

Citing anonymous sources in Ukrainian intelligence, RBC Ukraine reported on Sunday that the deadly attack had been organised by the Ukrainian special services.

“These railway lines are critical logistics links in supplying the occupying forces in the Kharkiv and Sumy directions. The Russians will experience significant complications in logistics,” a source told RBC-Ukraine.

On Sunday, there were two more derailments in Russia’s northwestern Leningrad region, one of which killed a train driver, the second of which led to 15 tank wagons overturning.
